Mission Statement of Group:
The ongoing maintenance,upkeep and enhancement of our parish Cemetery
Brief History:
The Islandeady Cemetery Committee is a subcommittee of the Community Council, which is given the primary task of keeping the final resting places of the many deceased Islandeady people, looking clean and respectful.
Since the foundation of the Community Council in 1976, the cemetery has received on-going attention especially in the area of:
The Renovations of the Old Church in 1990
The Restoration of the Famine Graves 1990
The Commemorative Celtic Cross 1996
The Grotto 2000
The Water Connection in 2007
Concrete Paving and Additional/Enhanced Pathway in 2007 (RSS Scheme)
Annual Weed-killing and Clean-up
Plot of the Angels in 2000
Installation of additional Steps and Handrails in 2013
Current Goals and Achievements:
To continue the good work of the past
To keep the Cemetery Litter Free
Continue the good work in co-operation with the RSS scheme and Mayo County Council
Worked in conjunction with Foroige to research identifiable graves and map them for display at the cemetery in 2010
