Purpose of the Islandeady GAA Facility: Sports Facility for the playing and promoting of GAA games for the people in the Parish of Islandeady & the half parish of Glenisland
Brief History:
The national GAA was formed in 1884. Its influence in Islandeady became prominent between 1890 and 1900 when men from Islandeady, Aughagower and Killawalla parishes joined together for recreational sport and activities. Islandeady GAA did not become official until 1904. Since its increase in popularity in the early 20th century, the GAA has been an important asset to the parish and can boast the participation of hundreds of community members. Currently the GAA club is organized by age group with classifications of under the ages of 8, 10, 12, 16 and 18. In addition to this, there are also adult and senior clubs to cater for many community members who have participated in the GAA for much of their lifetime. Presently, the Islandeady GAA has approximately 175 members.
